【摘要】:Theringshearapparatusmaintainsthecross-sectionalareaoftheshearsurfaceconstantduringshearandshearsthespecimencontinuouslyinonerotationaldirectionforanymagnitudeofdisplacementandalongentirecross-sectionalarea.Theringshearapparatusallowsareconstitutedspecimentobeconsolidatedatthedesirednormalstresspriortodrainedshearing.Thissimulatesthefieldconditionsunderwhichthefullysoftenedstrengthdevelopsinoverconsolidatedclays,claystones,mudstones,andshalesbecausethefullysoftenedstrengthcorrespondstothepeakshearstrengthofanormallyconsolidatedclay.Theringsheartestissuitedtotherelativelyrapiddeterminationofdrainedfullysoftenedshearstrengthbecauseoftheshortdrainagepaththroughthethinspecimenandfailureoccurringnearthetopporousstone.Theringsheartestminimizestheeffectofinitialdisturbancethatmayresultfromadjusting/creatingagapbeforestartingshearing,especiallyinthedirectsheardevice.Thetestresultsareprimarilyapplicabletoassesstheshearstrengthofoverconsolidatedsoilsfordrainedanalysisinslopesthatdonothaveapre-existingshearsurface,shearedbeddingplanes,joints,orfaults.Note18212;Notwithstandingthestatementsonprecisionandbiascontainedinthistestmethod:Theprecisionofthistestmethodisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingitandthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetenttesting.UsersofthistestmethodarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotensurereliabletesting.Reliabletestingdependsonseveralfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodprovidesaprocedureforperformingatorsionalringsheartestunderadrainedconditiontodeterminethefullysoftenedshearstrengthandnonlinearstrengthenvelopeofcohesivesoils.Thefullysoftenedstrengthisusedtoevaluatethestabilityofslopesthatdonothaveapreexistingshearsurface.Inaddition,thefullysoftenedshearstrengthcorrespondstothepeakshearstrengthofanormallyconsolidatedspecimen.Thistestmethodfocusesontheuseofareconstitutedspecimentomeasurethefullysoftenedstrength.Thistestmethodisperformedbyshearinganormallyconsolidated,reconstitutedspecimenatacontrolleddisplacementrateuntilthepeakshearresistancehasbeenobtained.Generally,thedrainedfullysoftenedfailureenvelopeisdeterminedatthreeormoreeffectivenormalstresses.Aseparatetestspecimenmustbeusedforeachnormalstresstomeasurethefullysoftenedstrengthotherwiseapost-peakorevenresidualstrengthwillbemeasuredifthesamespecimenisusedbecauseoftheexistenceofashearsurface.1.2Theringshearapparatusallowsareconstitutedspecimentobenormallyconsolidatedatthedesirednormalstresspriortodrainedshearing.Thissimulatesthefieldconditionsunderwhichthefullysoftenedstrengthdevelopsinoverconsolidatedclays,claystones,mudstones,andshales.1.3Ashearstress-displacementrelationshipmaybeobtainedfromthistestmethod.However,ashearstress-strainrelationshiporanyassociatedquantity,suchasmodulus,cannotbedeterminedfromthistestmethodbecausepossiblesoilextrusionandvolumechangepreventsdefiningtheheightneededintheshearstraincalculations.Asaresult,shearstraincannotbecalculatedbuts......
